Designers Overlook
Program for Martin Travel Prize Competition 2022
Create a “Designers” overlook space along the Mississippi River within the project area that:
Incorporates an historic look at the roll designers, citizens, and indigenous people have played in the design of landscapes, public parks and open spaces within the Twin Cities.
Integrates the importance of preserving natural systems and associated lands for all the public to access and recreate in.
Has a visual connection of the river gorge.
Interprets the importance of the Mississippi River to the region and the building of Twin Cities community.
Looks into the future of how the River and parkway system will serve all residents.
Maintains separated pedestrian/bike regional trail access through the site and connections to the neighborhood.
Maintains parkway access, parking and use.
Improves connection to underserved communities adjacent to the site.
Has low impacts to existing vegetation and wildlife including bird habitat and seasonal flyway considerations.
Treats any generated stormwater on-site and protects the river gorge.
Utilizes existing parking along the Parkway
